WELCOME

Thanks for your interest in the School of Music at Penn State and welcome to our Web site!

I am delighted to welcome you to the School of Music. I was honored to join this wonderful community of artists, scholars, and teachers in July, 2005, and I encourage you to investigate all that we have to offer. I look forward to meeting everyone associated with this wonderful school including alumni, friends, students and prospective students.

The faculty and staff are here to assist you as you make the transition to life as a student at University Park. We hope that your move to State College was (or will be) uneventful. We look forward to greeting you on your arrival, answering any questions you may have, and getting to work making and studying music together. The Music Office is located at 233 Music Building I. Locker information is available in 234 Music Building I.

School of Music students, whether majors, minors, or participants, have the best of all possible worlds. They are part of a School of Music that offers outstanding instruction, individual applied lessons with full-time artist faculty, many opportunities for solo and ensemble performances under the leadership of distinguished conductor-teachers, and numerous degree options directed by an outstanding faculty. Since Penn State is one of the country's premier research and teaching institutions, School of Music students can also take advantage of the enormous variety and stimulation that a major university has to offer. Moreover, State College, PA, is one of the truly ideal university settings. For culture, there are many exciting events on our beautiful campus, including numerous concerts, lectures, and theatre productions; for recreation, there are hiking and biking trails throughout the forests of this serene Nittany Valley. The musical and intellectual atmosphere of Penn State is fully charged. The air of State College/University Park is clean and peaceful.

I encourage you to examine other pages of our Web site. Should you have questions concerning the study of music at Penn State, I would be happy to speak with you and/or put you in touch with members of the faculty and staff. I encourage you to visit our campus, attend concerts and other events, and meet the faculty, students, and staff. Please let us know if we can assist you.
