CHAMBER MUSIC FOR PERCUSSION

The Percussion Ensemble program, under the direction of Dan C. Armstrong, consists of three groups. Percussion Ensembles I and II perform a variety of music written for four to twelve players, including serious contemporary music as well as arrangements of popular tunes. Instrumentation includes all types of percussion, from familiar drums and cymbals to exotic items from around the world.

The Mallet Ensemble performs music written or arranged for mallet-played keyboard instruments and consists of three to eight players. Literature ranges from transcribed orchestral and chamber music to contemporary compositions written specifically for the instrumentation.

These ensembles have appeared at the Music Educators National Conference and Pennsylvania Music Educators Association annual conferences. Enrollment is by audition with the conductor.

INSTRUMENTAL CHAMBER ENSEMBLES
Penn State's chamber music program includes ensembles for brass, string and woodwind instruments.  These ensembles, coached by members of the School's performance faculty, present concerts throughout the year in the University's numerous performance venues.  The chamber music repertoire is diverse, with a wealth of literature that spans four centuries.  Enrollment is by audition with the program's instructors.
