CASTALIA TRIO

trioThe Castalia Trio, established in 1991 is ensemble dedicated to performing works from the classic chamber repertory, as well as notable works by contemporary masters. The ensemble unites faculty artists James Lyon, Kim Cook, and Marylene Dosse. The Castalia Trio received tremendous acclamation for its performance of Beethoven's Triple Concerto at the 1992 Music at Penn's Woods Festival, and it is this work the trio chose to present for its 1993 European tour to the Czech Republic, Austria, and Germany. While in Europe, the artists were engaged to record a compact disc for the Skrvna Label of the Czech Republic. This recording of the Brahms Opus 8 and the Ravel Trios was the recipient of the 1994 Sound Stage award. The trio recently made its New York City debut at Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall. The artist faculty members are also active as clinicians for chamber music workshops and seminars.

This ensemble was selected for inclusion in the Pennsylvania Performing Arts on Tour Roster. Funding may be available to support performance engagements with presenters in DC, DE, MD, NJ, NY, OH, PA, VA, WV and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

According to ancient Greek mythology, Castalia was a sacred spring located on Mt. Parnassus, which was frequented by the Muses and considered a source of poetic inspiration. In this tradition of re-kindled creativity, the Castalia Trio aspires to bring fresh and distinctive interpretations to the rich heritage of the piano trio repertory.
