Recorded Auditions

It is always preferable to audition “in person.” This gives the faculty an opportunity to meet and work with potential students. A written music theory exam, administered on the audition day, is a valuable portion of the audition process. In addition, students are evaluated during the audition for a possible music merit scholarship.

However, if travel distance prohibits an on-campus audition (especially for students who live beyond the surrounding states of NY, NJ, MD, OH, etc.) or if there are other extenuating circumstances, please contact the studio instructor for permission to send a recorded audition. High quality CDs and DVDs are acceptable. (Note: the voice faculty no longer accept recorded auditions.)

Please follow these guidelines:

1. Complete and submit the Audition Request Form on this web site. Under “audition dates,” click “other.” In the adjacent box, type in “recorded audition.”

2. Follow audition requirements for your instrument as listed.

3. Clearly label the recording with your name, Penn State ID #, instrument, repertoire titles/composers, address, phone number, and e-mail address. (This information may be listed on the case or enclosed on a separate sheet of paper.)

4. Send the recording NO LATER THAN February 18, 2009 to:

You will be notified when the recording has been received. Do NOT send your recording with your application to the Penn State Admissions Office.
