Music Buildings and Performance Halls

The School of Music populates two large buildings on the University Park Campus at the College of Arts and Architecture quadrangle. The School's recital hall is located on the ground floor of the Music Building.

Music Building

The building, constructed in 1963, houses classrooms and seminar rooms, the School's main Recital Hall, the choral rehearsal room, a graduate resource center, the choral music library, faculty and graduate student offices, all music administrative offices, and organ practice rooms.

Recital Hall. Located on the ground floor of the Music Building, this 400-seat auditorium is the primary performance space for the School's solo and chamber music performances. The hall is home to Steinway and Boesendorfer concert grand pianos and a large Holtkamp organ. It is here that both faculty and students perform their solo recitals, give chamber music performances, and it is here also that the School's smaller ensembles perform (percussion, flute, trombone, horn ensembles, the Chamber Orchestra, the Symphonic Wind Ensemble).

Music Building II

Adjoining the Music Building is the Music Building II, constructed in 1993. It houses faculty studios and graduate student offices, percussion studios and percussion storage rooms, a piano lab, classrooms, the instrumental ensemble library, music technology facilities, and numerous practice rooms.

Computer Labs. The main computer lab has 16 student work-stations with Macintosh computers, synthesizers, a mixer, and a fully-equipped instructor's terminal. The room is used for instruction in electronic music, as an ear-training lab, and as a general music computing facility for notation, Web research, and technology instruction. There is additionally a recording room for individual use on special projects and selected course assignments.

Blue Band Building

In Fall 2004, the Marching Blue Band consolidated its operations in the newly constructed Blue Band Building. The new building features a 9,000-square-foot practice area, faculty offices, storage space for instruments and uniforms, and display cases for the band's historic memorabilia.
