Logic Express tips and tricks

  • Never run your project from a CD, flash drive, your U drive, or anything external to the computer you are working on. Always copy your project to the computer before you start working. For good measure, eject your storage device after you copy the project to the computer. After you are done working, back your project up to your storage device again.

Reading files from the storage devices can lead to playback problems, whereby sequences stop during playback because the processor is overloaded. Worse yet are file management problems, where audio files are named incorrectly, or project files are unopenable.

  • Logic Express can be quite stupid about audio files. Sometimes it will tell you that it can't find files that are exactly where they should be. Usually the error prompt asks you if you want to locate the file. In those cases, take this option, get all the files loaded properly, then re-save the project with a new name.

  • If you remove audio files from your project, be sure to make sure that the files are not listed in the Audio Window. There is an option there to select all unused sound clips and delete them. This can prevent those pesky missing file errors from showing up.

  • Remember that you can always copy files to or from another lab machine via the Copy From folder that can be found on the desktop.
